Get to Know Braden Wheatcroft
Born into a family who owned a construction business in Nanaimo, Braden developed an interest in real estate from an early age. In his teenage years, Braden worked commission in retail flooring sales, finding a passion for customer service and appreciation for the idea that you “get out what you put in.” Braden joined the Charlie Parker Team in Nanaimo in his early 20s and began applying his skills from retail to real estate. His curiosity, easy-going nature, and willingness to work hard propelled his career faster than he could have imagined. Eventually, Braden began coaching REALTORS® and became part-owner of the RE/MAX Camosun brokerage!
He describes this progression: “It was totally by accident. As a young agent, I was doing things a little differently than some of my peers who were older and more established. I started getting asked to do one-on-one training sessions to teach agents how to run their business off an iPad using tools like Dropbox, DocuSign, and PDF Expert. Eventually, I was able to host sessions with dozens of agents in the room and I realized this was my calling. In a day where I would have a bunch of buyer showings, a listing presentation, and a training session I was hosting, I was most looking forward to the training session! Thankfully, Charlie Parker saw value in what I was doing and created a part-time training role for me in the brokerage which kept growing into the role I have today.”
Values and Gratitude
Braden deeply values the people who have helped him along the way and acknowledges his teachers and mentors: “Without question, Charlie and Graeme Parker have had the greatest impact on my career, especially in the first six years of it. I am fortunate that with my work as a coach with RRI that I get exposed to Richard Robbins and Dana Richard (RRI Head Coach), and they have shaped a lot of my thinking over the past five years.” Outside RE/MAX, Braden finds his teachers in the pages of books and his fiancé, Mandy. “There’s a Mark Twain quote that I really resonate with that says, The man who does not read has no advantage over the man who cannot read. I want to make the most of the privilege I have to read and write. And although my fiancé, Mandy, hasn’t been a mentor for me in my career, there is literally zero percent chance I would be where I am today if it was not for her unconditional support of me and my career.”
When asked what motivates him every day, Braden answered “gratitude and perspective”, and shared insight into his own philosophies about living in the moment and being grateful for what you have. “This is going to sound weird, but I think about my own mortality and that of my loved ones a lot. In fact, I think about it on purpose! Since I was turned on to Stoic Philosophy back in 2018, I have been reading it ever since. Memento Mori is an ancient practice of reminding and reflecting on our own mortality. When you look at your life, your troubles and triumphs, you realize that very few things really matter and that today could be your last. This motivates me to not only make the most of each day but to make sure I do my best to leave each interaction with people on the best terms possible. It could be the last time I see them. That’s probably super weird, but it forces me to stay grounded and grateful for every day.”
Collaboration
Braden also sees the value of collaboration with others in the real estate industry:
“People think that the real estate industry is competitive – And it is! But competitive doesn’t mean it can’t be collaborative, and I have been amazed and honoured to be the benefactor of many agents’ generosity of time, attention, and wisdom. Although I believe our industry to be very collaborative in general, that doesn’t mean you can sit back and let it come to you! Get out there and make connections. You get out what you put in!”
In his spare time, Braden enjoys eating great food and drinking great wine, travelling, photography, and golf.
